31. Delivering happiness - Zappos Story - A must read book.
The best thing I liked about this biography which tells you about the birth of a Company i it's humorous writing. It is a very interesting read. It is more of a biography of Tony Hsieh and his life and unlike the last book that i read about Jia Jang, he doesn't mention his personal life too much. He only reveals as much personal life as is necessary, only those parts that are connected somewhere with the story and birth of Zappos.
Tony Hsieh started his humble journey, which is not so humble because he was a topper throughout and a Harvard graduate which means he already had his mind int he right place. The good thing about him was that he was ready to take risks, he would read a lot of books, he had a great set of people around and he was thoroughly a great optimistic person. He was charged for success. He writes this book like good things happen to hum and he wasn't expecting them. It was his positive nature.
Tony Hsieh didn't actually create Zappos, he was the one who believed in it thoroughly so much so that he invested all the money he had into it. What he created was Linkexchange.com which was sold to Microsoft for 265 Million Dollors when he was just 24 years old.
His life is an inspiration. I downloaded this book from Amazon after it was recommended by Jia Jang, the man who performed 100 rejection things that i mention in another of my blog. Jia jang writes about him that this book by Tony Hsieh is that one book which he has read hundreds of times because it motivates him to become an entrepreneur, which is true. As i was reading the book, I too had got these thoughts of becoming an entrepreneur.
The thing that i didn't like about the book was it's second half. Suddenly the humorous Biography turns into a management lecture and it is very repetitive and abstract too. There are so many references to other books that you want to put the book down at this moment but then you are still waiting for some interesting anecdotes from him , which unfortunatly never comes again. Over all the book is a great read and i finished it in a record 4 four straight.
One book that he mentions again and again is "Good to great" by Jim Collins and every entrepreneur book that i am reading nowadays mentions that book. I think i must read it and keep it int he pipeline of must read books. The truth is that i started reading it but left it in half way because it wasn't relevant to what i was doing earlier but now as i am planning to create my own company i think i must start reading it.
