45. Magic and how it works


I didn't understand magic until I started doing it. I started doing it because i had to do something to gather the attention of people around me. Initially how i started was by reading books on it. I downloaded all the books that i could download on the internet and transferred it to my iPad. I read few of them and they literally changed my perception of  Magic from merely a gimmick and lost art to something that one could apply in real life to get miraculous results. Magic is everywhere and we witness it everyday, we juts don't notice it. People getting rich and successful, boys having beautiful girls, low key politicians winning elections, places getting clean on its own, it is all magic but we don't categorize it as magic because we don't know the performer. Magic is an event, apart of which is obscured from the vision and knowledge of the spectator. 

One of the key elements of Magic is Belief. Now i didn't know that. I thought Magic is all about tricks. But i was reading this awesome ebook, the name of which i forgot now, it was just a 25 page book and i finished it at one go. it changed my perception of Magic. The author says in that book that you cannot perform magic if you don't believe that magic is happening. Even though you are performing the magic and you know what you are doing but still you must believe that the magic will happen and it will happen. You must believe that the coin in your hand will vanish and only then it will vanish. you must believe that you will pick and only then you will be able to pick the right card. 
And then, only then you will be able to convince the person in front of you that you have done the magic.   

Problem is human body. 98% of our communication is from our body so if your eyes and your body won't believe that the magic is happening you will never be able to convince someone of the same. The person who will be witnessing the magic will -immediately look at you in surprise or to gather some reaction and if he notices some trick or deceit into it, he will try to find reasons how you did it instead of feeling amused. That is why most of the magicians have poker face when they perform magic because they want the other person to believe that they are going through the same surprise as the person who is watching the magic and they themselves are amused by it. 

Magic, like any other art is all about practice and the more you practice,the more perfect you will become. It is about reading books about magic, watching videos, meeting people and most importantly failing a lot of times.

Baahubali was a blockbuster in every sense. I didn't like it because as a screenplay writer I found too many faults, which I thought if avoided it could have become a legend of a film. But the film was entertaining and lead its own culture. A lot of people around me loved it. That is the curse of learning filmmaking that I have to carry my entire life, I see filmmaking from many points of view, not just entertaining. I do VFX for my films too and I know how difficult of work that is. Baahubali-2 does not reveal much in its later trailer, except the visual effects and close beauty shots of actors. But then that is the whole point of this film. I just wish that the story this time will be better to create its own standing. That is just my point of view and i know people loved the story otherwise how will u explain the "Katappa killed Baahubali" Craze. 75. A lesson from an IPS officer on success that you must not ignore. At least I didn’t.

A day ago I met an IPS officer. He is a good friend of mine. He is posted in Kerala and his name is Prateesh Kumar. He was here on a short visit to Mumbai so we decided to take a stroll around seaside just to remember the old times and talk about other stuffs of life. 73. Reviewing Boston Legal : Supreme court Speech by Alan Shore ( For Aspiring Actors)

I am sharing this video with you so that you can rehearse the lines if you want to be an actor. I love this whole scene when i first watched it ages back and it still haunts me. The way James Spader has performed this whole scene astounds me still. The perfect intonation, gaps, punctuation, speeds, pauses and whole performance is just scintillating. the big revelation came to me when i started auditioning for acting and I decided to create my showreel. So I downloaded this episode and wrote down the entire speech. It is way too long firstly, and secondly English is not my first language so there was difficulty in speaking this language. But destiny had some better plans for me and taught me something which I could not have learned otherwise.
