65. Ten things that you can learn from Charlie Harper about Life.

Optimism.
Charlie Harper is one of the most optimist guy you will ever meet. He never talks negative and negative things never happen to him. Even when Negative things happen to him, he never clings to them, unlike Alan who makes mountain out of molehills of everything happening to him. In one of the episodes, Charlie gets bankrupt and Alan kept asking him to do something about it while Charlie keeps on repeating that “Something will turn up” and something does turn up soon.

Life is always good.
Charlie doesn’t’ care to see the other side of life. He enjoys his life and that is his basic goal of life. He brings girls to his place, enjoys his scotch, watch TV whole day, work for a while in the evening, go out again for girl hunting and come back with either a girl or a prostitute. He only sees good things in life and ignores things that irritates him. He never looks at poverty or depressing news channels. He enjoys small things in life. He even watches Teleshopping channel. He hasn’t let the kid inside him die. This happens when you have decided very early in life what kind of life your desire for yourself.

To be rich, feel rich.
One of the reasons why Alan is poor despite his hard work as Chiropractor and the reason why Charlie Harper is rich is because of attitude. Charlie feels himself to be rich and Alan feels like a poor guy. Alan once won a lottery at a casino but soon lost all his money. Alan is destined to be poor because he has a poor man’s attitude. Charlie on the other hand keeps getting unexpected cheques and does not hold the money by his teeth. He is not a miser and believes that money must be used for services and desires instead of saving it all for future crisis. Charlie believes in Carpe Diem.

Wear specific clothes that identifies you.
Charlie always wear bowling ball T-short and shorts, except for some times when he goes out in jeans or in formal places in suit, but that is very rare. Anyone can identify Charlie from anywhere. He is loved because he has a style and he lives with it. He looks predictable yet maintains a mysterious aroma around him, which makes it charming for girls. He confuses them about his personality and creates a satiating desire in others mind to know him more. And once a person knows you, they will never forget you. It is not just clothes, but create a pattern in everything you own. It seriously gives a classy look to the person.

Wear a watch.
Charlie always wears a watch when he is leaving his house. Wearing a watch is a must must thing if you want people to respect you and get influenced by you. But don’t wear Casio or Armitron digital watches as it gives a very amateurish and nerdy look which never looks good unless you want to portray yourself like that. A good metallic watch which doesn’t dangle but fits your wrists is something you must always wear in your hands.

Money can buy you everything.
Leave every other thought given to you by spiritual teachers or religions or ad films or middle class teachers or poor relatives. Money is in fact everything. With money comes confidence and with confidence you get everything. Money cannot buy you happiness because you once you get money, you will already be happy so why would you buy something which you already have. Money literally buy everything so never hate it because money is a jealous wife, you hate her, she will hate you back and will never come back to you.

Never take life too seriously.
One of the most widespread disease is taking one’s life too seriously.  Alan always takes his life too seriously and he has all the problems in his life. Have a sense of humor about everything. There is no serious situation in this world that cannot be made fun of. Think of your life as a sitcom and live your life like that. Trust me, you will never have ulcers in your life.

Do what it pleases.
One of the most disheartening thing about society is conformity and living by the rules decided by society. It is completely ok to do what you want to till it doesn’t fall beyond the lines of illegal activity. Do what it pleases you. The best thing about “Two and half men” is that it shows you two sides of mirror – Charlie and Alan. Alan is exactly opposite of Charlie. Sometimes people are born with certain traits and sometimes people develop it. Don’t dishearten if you are like Alan. I am not saying that being Alan is a wrong thing. Many would enjoy being committed and sensitive like Alan but a mixture of both Alan and Charlie would be just swell. Breaking some small rules once in a while has never harmed anyone. Do what you want to do. Just because you have done engineering for four years doesn’t mean you have to stick to engineering jobs even though you don’t enjoy it.

Love money, but care too much not to spend it.
Love for money is never bad, in fact the more you love money the more it comes to you. But loving the money is one thing and being miser is another. Remember how Charlie never asks Bertha that money she charges and sometimes overpays her. I am not asking you to overpay anyone but I am saying that choosing between mental peace and money, go for mental peace. Money is just a medium of transaction. It is just a representation of your worth. So when you love money you love yourself more because you feel yourself worthy of that money. But when it comes to spending, spend it. Do it intelligently but spend it nonetheless. Only an insecure person will be miser.

Something always turns up.
I love this quote from Charlie harper and I have used to several times in my life to get motivated. I am an avid believer in Napoleon Hill’s theory of whatever you think, gets created I the universe and eventually happens. So in my experience whenever something bad happens to me, I keep saying to myself that something will turn up and trust me, something always turns up.
